Student Worker (Music Conversion Specialist)

Job Information

Student Disability Services at the University of Mississippi is hiring student workers to assist with converting music-based materials, such as textbooks, musical scores, and sheet music, into alternative formats for students who are blind or low vision. Music Conversion Specialists will convert music-based materials into MusicXML and accessible alternate formats for students who are blind or low vision. Familiarity with tactile graphics and Braille is helpful but not required. Knowledge of software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Math Type is also helpful but again, not required. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities
• Scanning textbooks
• Use a variety of software to convert scans and other course materials into accessible formats
• Convert general course reading materials into accessible formats using a variety of conversion software and scan textbooks and other reading materials
• If needed, assist in all areas of SDS at any given time including assisting at the front desk and answering the departmental telephone

Qualifications
• Current UM student
• Knowledge of musical notation, musical scores, and various music formats is required
• Regular and reliable attendance
