Job Description: 

Graduate assistant will work with Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) instructors and staff while serving as the point person for visitors to the DWR.  Will also provide administrative support to staff, answer the front desk phone, and trouble-shoot computer/printer set up and connection issues.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as receptionist for the DWR by providing front desk coverage, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and answering general questions.

  • Assist with office setup, as requested, as instructors move into new office spaces in Lamar Hall and Somerville Hall.  This could possibly include purchase of office supplies, file relocation, and movement of furniture in which heavy lifting may be involved.

  • Assist with the organization and cleaning of the DWR kitchen, mailroom, storage areas, and conference room.

  • Work under the direction of the Assessment Coordinator, Communications Specialist, and Administrative Coordinator on special projects, as needed.

  • Work under the direction of the Assessment Coordinator in setting up computers with the print server and establishing copy limits.

  • Maintain the departmental golf cart by recharging it and cleaning it as needed.

  • Follow flexible work schedule to provide backup for lunch breaks and time off as taken by the administrative staff.

  • Attend special events, such as the Transitioning to College Writing Symposium, and provide support to attendees.

  • Distribute mail and packages to DWR instructors and staff

  • Update and maintain the DWR directory in Somerville Hall

  • Remove and organize materials on the bulletin boards in Lamar Hall

  • Run errands on and off campus

  • Provide general administrative support to the DWR administrative staff, as needed

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate Student – MUST qualify for a work study assistantship (students enrolled in Law School do not qualify)

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (specifically, Word and Excel)

  • General knowledge of computer hardware setup and printer networking

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
