Definition of Class
Accountant II:
This position independently performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with limited supervision. The incumbent prepares and analyzes financial statements and reports, reconciles and monitors accounts, identifies and resolves discrepancies, and prepares and monitors budgets. This position may supervise others and reports to a higher-level administrator.
Senior Accountant:
This position is an experienced accountant employed within a centralized department. The incumbent performs advanced level accounting duties, supervises and coordinates a variety of accounting operations, prepares various financial reports, reconciles and monitors accounts, and prepares financial reports. This position reports to a higher-level administrator.
Examples of Work Performed
- Prepares, analyzes, and reviews financial statements, reports, and spreadsheets for internal and external use.
- Monitors and prepares departmental budgets and proposes budgetary adjustments and projections.
- Analyzes and reconciles accounts.
- Identifies and resolves discrepancies in accounting records.
- Approves adjustments to accounting records.
- Provides guidance and direction to support staff.
- Corresponds with departments and advises them on accounting issues.
- Prepares invoices for distribution to outside agencies and resolves billing/collection issues.
- Identifies and recommends changes to policies and procedures.
- Prepares, reviews and approves personnel forms in accordance with departmental and other budget requirements.
- Identifies, monitors, and reports departmental, taxable transactions.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with institutional, state, federal, and other external agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ensures all assigned tasks performed are in compliance with department, University, Southeastern Conference, NCAA, state, federal, and other external agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Accountant II:

Senior Accountant:

Monitors and supervises accounting operations and activities.

Provides guidance to accounting personnel, as applicable, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Reconciles accounts and prepares financial reports.
Minimum Education/Experience
Accountant II:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
Senior Accountant:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
AND
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.
