Definition of Class
This position is responsible for campus community outreach and development of student support services to foster multicultural awareness and cross cultural engagement. The incumbent designs and implements strategies to facilitate student success and support retention initiatives for underrepresented student populations; creates cross-cultural and diversity programs for students, faculty and staff; provides educational and cultural support to student organizations and leadership teams, and creates assessment tools for evaluation of programs and services.
Examples of Work Performed
• Assists the Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement (CICCE) in the development and coordination of CICCE programs and services.
• Supports initiatives outlined in Pathways to Equity, institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan.
• Develops campus-wide partnerships with departments and organizations to support retention efforts for underrepresented student populations.
• Provides oversite for retention programs and related student success initiatives, including but not limited to peer mentoring programs and men of color retention initiatives.
• Provides advising support and programming resources to student organizations, with direct advising/ oversight of Men of Excellence.
• Works with various constituents to assess and address barriers to access, retention, and success; developing equity-centered partnerships and interventions with departments and organizations campus-wide to support retention and student success efforts for underrepresented student populations.
• Coordinates leadership conferences, training opportunities, and initiatives that promote a sense of belonging, self-efficacy, and personal/professional development.
• Creates assessment tools for evaluations of programs and services, assesses programs, and utilizes information to enhance or develop new initiatives.
• Supervise graduate and student staff.
• Manages and maintains budgets for retention initiatives and programs to include oversight of purchases for student leadership teams and preparation of budget reports and updates.
• Leverages technology to aid in mentoring, retention, and success efforts.
• Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
- Develops and implements strategies to foster multicultural awareness and cross cultural interaction.
- Designs, implements, and coordinates student retention initiatives and cross cultural engagement.
- Advises student organizations and serves as a liaison between student organizations and administration.
- Coordinates assessment and evaluation of programs and services.
- Manages and maintains assigned budgets.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field, from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.
Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
